Privacy Policy

1. Overview

We take your privacy seriously. BiasGrid collects as little data as possible. Below we explain what data we process and why.

Note for users in Switzerland 🇨🇭

Where the Swiss Data Protection Act (DSG) applies to our processing, we comply with its requirements. Our server is located in Germany (EU), which the Swiss Federal Council recognizes as providing an adequate level of data protection (Annex 1 DSV).

2. Stored Data

  • User ID: We generate a random ID (UUID) stored in your browser to save your game progress. This ID is pseudonymous.
  • Votes: Your yes/no decisions are stored anonymously to generate statistics.
  • Demographics: Optional information (age, gender, country) is stored to enable statistical comparisons.

3. External Services

OpenRouter (AI): We use OpenRouter (USA) for question generation and moderation. Only the question text is transmitted — no user data or votes.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

We only use technically necessary cookies and local storage (localStorage). There are no tracking, analytics, or marketing cookies.

  • Session cookie (next-auth.session-token): Set when you log in with Google to maintain your session. Technically necessary.
  • CSRF cookie (next-auth.csrf-token): Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks. Technically necessary.
  • Anonymous user ID (localStorage): Random UUID to identify your game progress.
  • Language preference (localStorage): Stores your chosen language (DE/EN).
  • UI settings (localStorage): Stores display preferences.

Since all cookies and local storage are technically necessary, no consent is required under Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive. We are simply informing you of their use.

5. Legal Basis

Processing of technically necessary data is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in providing a functional web application. Voluntary demographic data is processed based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

6. Your Rights

You can delete your game progress and all locally stored data at any time in the app settings ("Reset"). You also have the right to access, rectification, erasure, and data portability of your personal data.
