Privacy Policy

1. Overview

We take your privacy seriously. BiasGrid collects as little data as possible. Below we explain what data we process and why.

2. Stored Data

  • User ID: We generate a random ID (UUID) stored in your browser to save your game progress. This ID is pseudonymous.
  • Votes: Your yes/no decisions are stored anonymously to generate statistics.
  • Demographics: Optional information (age, gender, country) is stored to enable statistical comparisons.

3. External Services

OpenRouter (AI): We use OpenRouter (USA) for question generation and moderation. Only the question text is transmitted — no user data or votes.

  • Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) to analyze website usage. This only happens with your explicit consent. IP addresses are anonymized. You can revoke your consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

We distinguish between technically necessary cookies and analytics cookies:

  • Session cookie (next-auth.session-token): Set when you log in with Google to maintain your session. Technically necessary.
  • CSRF cookie (next-auth.csrf-token): Protects against cross-site request forgery attacks. Technically necessary.
  • Anonymous user ID (localStorage): Random UUID to identify your game progress. Technically necessary.
  • Language preference (localStorage): Stores your chosen language (DE/EN). Technically necessary.
  • Cookie consent (localStorage): Stores your cookie preference. Technically necessary.
  • Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*): Analytics cookies for anonymized usage statistics. Only with consent.

Technically necessary cookies are set without consent under Art. 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive. Google Analytics cookies are only activated with your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

5. Legal Basis

Processing of technically necessary data is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in providing a functional web application. Voluntary demographic data is processed based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

6. Your Rights

You can delete your game progress and all locally stored data at any time in the app settings ("Reset"). You also have the right to access, rectification, erasure, and data portability of your personal data.
